AI Review
Fiscal 2026 sales stabilized at $46.4 billion after a painful 9.8% decline the previous year, showing that the worst retail collapse has halted. However, reported net income of $3.11 billion was artificially lifted by a $986 million one-off tariff refund. Stripping out this credit reveals that underlying operating profit margins sat near 6%, well below the reported 8.19%. Free cash flow fell 33% to $2.18 billion, failing to fully cover the $2.4 billion annual dividend payout. Real financial recovery requires cleaning out discounted merchandise and driving full-price wholesale reorders rather than relying on accounting windfalls.

AI Review
Gross profit margins stabilized at 42.9% in fiscal 2026, breaking a multi-year slide from 46% peaks. This floor was established as heavy liquidation markdowns slowed and full-price wholesale shipments resumed, offsetting higher ocean shipping rates and trade tariffs. Reported operating margins stood at 8.19%, but underlying profitability was roughly 6% without one-time tariff credits. Genuine margin expansion back toward double digits depends on eliminating clearance discounting, containing corporate overhead, and restoring strong pricing power across core performance running footwear.
