Earnings and Revenue Trajectory
AI Review
Reported headline earnings show impressive optical growth, with full-year 2025 net profit rising twelve percent to 6.29 billion euros and first-half 2026 profit reaching 4.34 billion euros. However, this headline strength conceals a 950-million-euro one-off capital gain from selling Mexican power plants. Looking at regular operations, revenue actually dipped slightly as lower raw commodity costs passed through to customers, leaving adjusted net profit growth at a more moderate eight percent. Underneath the accounting statements, recurring earnings are successfully migrating toward regulated electricity distribution networks, which now generate the majority of group operating profit. This structural change makes earnings much more predictable than traditional merchant power generation. Nonetheless, investors must recognize that reported net income substantially overstates organic cash generation, as heavy network construction absorbs operating cash flow.

Profitability & Margins
Margins and Operating Efficiency
AI Review
Profitability margins have expanded steadily, with gross margin widening to 54.6 percent and operating margin climbing to 23.1 percent in 2025. This margin improvement does not reflect sudden cost-cutting, but rather a structural shift in business mix: high-margin, inflation-linked network tariffs now make up a far larger share of revenue than low-margin wholesale electricity supply. While operating margins look exceptionally strong, net profit margins face an unavoidable ceiling near fourteen percent. Higher debt servicing expenses, increasing depreciation charges on new transmission lines, and statutory regulatory return caps prevent operating gains from converting into runaway bottom-line profits. Future profitability will be characterized by stable, resilient margins rather than accelerating growth.
