AI Review
The business delivered a dramatic earnings recovery in the first half of 2026, bouncing back from a depressed 2025 where net income hit a low of 371 million dollars. Surging global copper demand and lucrative trading gains from shipping bottlenecks drove first-half net profit to 4.37 billion dollars. However, headline accounting profits masked a temporary cash bottleneck. Rapidly rising commodity prices absorbed billions into transit inventories and trading margin requirements, temporarily squeezing reported free cash flow. As these high-value commodity cargoes deliver, this tied-up capital will release into substantial cash for shareholders.

AI Review
Consolidated profit margins look paper-thin at first glance because massive volumes of third-party commodity trading produce high revenues with low markups. However, looking beneath headline numbers reveals an exceptionally profitable industrial mining business. In the first half of 2026, copper mining earned an impressive 52% operating margin, while steelmaking coal reached 38%. Although recent trading windfalls will moderate as shipping lanes stabilize, expanding low-cost copper production permanently strengthens overall profitability, defending company cash generation against mine-site cost inflation in diesel and labor.
