Earnings and Revenue Trajectory
AI Review
The corporate financial trajectory shows a brutal cyclical downturn transitioning into fragile operational recovery. In fiscal 2025, consolidated revenues fell to KRW 45.9 trillion, resulting in a net loss of KRW 1.82 trillion as Chinese chemical dumping and battery inventory write-downs took a severe toll. However, quarterly performance through mid-2026 marked an inflection point, with second-quarter revenues climbing to KRW 14.18 trillion and net profit rebounding to KRW 113 billion as battery margins stabilized. This rebound confirms that operational triage is halting financial deterioration. Underlying cash profitability is decoupling from commoditized chemical troughs as specialized battery materials expand, though trailing twelve-month free cash flow remains negative while heavy capital projects wrap up.

Profitability & Margins
Margins and Operating Efficiency
AI Review
Profitability margins collapsed from historical peaks of 11.78% in 2021 down to 2.57% in fiscal 2025, with net margins sinking to negative 3.96%. The primary driver was relentless Chinese petrochemical capacity additions, which crushed regional naphtha cracking spreads below breakeven, compounded by lithium inventory devaluations across cathode lines. Encouragingly, gross margins showed stabilization near 21% by mid-2026, supported by positive inventory timing and specialty product expansion. As loss-making domestic cracking capacity is consolidated and high-nickel cathode conversion fees scale, consolidated operating margins are poised to structurally recover toward mid-single-digit levels.
