Earnings and Revenue Trajectory
AI Review
The bank has engineered a genuine operational turnaround, shifting from unpredictable trading swings to dependable core banking profits. In fiscal 2025, net income jumped to 6.93 billion euros, and momentum continued into the first half of 2026 with over 4 billion euros in post-tax earnings. This success was powered by steady corporate cash-management fees and widened lending spreads. These results prove that earnings growth is recurring rather than a temporary accounting bounce. While headlines celebrated record revenues, retail investors should recognize that settling legacy lawsuits and managing customer deposit rates were the true drivers, creating a stable earnings engine that reliably funds shareholder dividends.

Profitability & Margins
Margins and Operating Efficiency
AI Review
Profitability margins have staged a remarkable recovery from historical lows, driven by positive interest rates and strict cost control. The operating margin expanded toward 16 percent in fiscal 2025, while the cost-to-income ratio fell close to 61 percent by mid-2026. This widening gap between revenues and operating expenses proves that operational efficiency is finally taking hold. This margin improvement is structural rather than accidental. Decisive branch rationalization and the end of restructuring charges lowered fixed overhead, allowing more revenue to reach net income. Even if slowing European economic growth pushes loan losses higher, these healthier margins provide a reliable buffer to defend double-digit returns.
