Earnings and Revenue Trajectory
AI Review
Applied Materials demonstrated explosive operational momentum through July 2026, delivering record quarterly revenue of $9.12 billion, up 24.8% year-over-year, and pushing trailing revenue to $30.8 billion. Net income climbed to $9.27 billion as chipmakers rushed to secure tools for advanced artificial intelligence hardware and new transistor manufacturing. However, headline profits mask underlying cash flow divergence. Trailing free cash flow of $5.62 billion trailed net income by over $3.6 billion due to working-capital expansion and customer installation buffering. As early rush orders subside and Asian mature-node demand cools, revenue growth will decelerate toward mid-single digits.

Profitability & Margins
Margins and Operating Efficiency
AI Review
Profitability has reached impressive peaks, with gross margin expanding to 48.7% in fiscal 2025 and operating margins firming near 30.5% in recent quarters. This margin climb reflects exceptional pricing power on proprietary tools used in complex gate-all-around transistor manufacturing and high-margin subscription maintenance services. Nonetheless, these peak margins are cyclically vulnerable. Expanding research expenditures and product mix shifts away from lucrative trailing-edge Chinese tool shipments will create margin friction. When factory utilization temporarily softens during customer digestion phases, operating margins are expected to normalize toward mid-twenties historical averages.
