Earnings and Revenue Trajectory

AI Review

The company surpassed one trillion renminbi in annual revenue for fiscal 2026, yet reported net income dropped by seventy-four percent in the latest quarter. This dramatic bottom-line drop does not stem from collapsing customer demand, but from deliberate corporate spending on artificial intelligence research, computing hardware, and defensive retail price matching. Beneath headline earnings pressure, public cloud revenues grew forty-five percent while core marketplace operations generated substantial operating profits. While reported free cash flow turned negative due to heavy datacenter building, the underlying commerce engine continues producing reliable cash to fund this technological transition.

Profitability & Margins

Margins and Operating Efficiency

AI Review

Operating margins dropped to just under six percent in fiscal 2026 from historical double-digit levels. This compression was driven by heavy promotions to protect domestic market share against discount rivals, alongside surging depreciation from newly opened datacenters. Yet gross margins held resilient near forty percent, showing that core transactional pricing power remains stable. The margin outlook depends on whether this slump is cyclical or structural. As newly added computer capacity begins generating high-margin software revenues and platform service fees expand across merchant storefronts, operating margins are projected to climb back toward ten percent.
