Earnings and Revenue Trajectory

AI Review

Headline financial reports show sharp profit swings that conceal an underlying commercial acceleration. In fiscal 2025, revenue reached 46.7 billion euros with net income expanding to 7.81 billion euros. While second-quarter 2026 reported accounting profit dropped sharply to 343 million euros, this decline was driven by a one-off 1.03-billion-euro pipeline impairment following the termination of uncompetitive eczema studies, rather than falling medicine demand. Underneath these accounting charges, core business performance is strengthening. Driven by blockbuster immunology demand and rapid uptake of infant respiratory and hemophilia therapies, quarterly operating sales grew by double digits. Management consequently upgraded full-year 2026 constant-currency sales targets to approximately 10%.

Profitability & Margins

Margins and Operating Efficiency

AI Review

Underlying profit margins reflect powerful commercial pricing power driven by high-value specialty biologics. Gross margins expanded to 72.1% in 2025, demonstrating that complex medicines command premium prices across global healthcare systems. While reported operating margins temporarily dipped to 20.5% due to clinical write-downs and restructuring costs, core business profitability remained strong. Selling off lower-margin consumer lines structurally lifts future profit margins toward 28% to 30%. As blockbuster respiratory indications scale and the launch portfolio expands without requiring proportional overhead, operating leverage will naturally widen profit margins, generating massive cash flows to reinvest in the business and reward shareholders.
