Earnings and Revenue Trajectory
AI Review
The financial trajectory demonstrates engineered stability rather than organic commercial expansion. Audited results for fiscal 2025 established operating income near 801.4 billion yuan and attributable net profit of 368.6 billion yuan, followed by first-half 2026 profit expanding 3.3% to 173.7 billion yuan. Top-line revenue stability was driven by strong corporate loan volumes and treasury gains, which effectively compensated for historically compressed lending spreads across domestic markets. Beneath headline stability, reported earnings were heavily managed. A 22% increase in first-half 2026 impairment charges absorbed a sharp rebound in net interest income, demonstrating that management deliberately built credit reserves rather than passing operational gains to shareholders. This smoothing policy protects dividend durability, confirming the bank functions as a predictable, utility-like income generator.

Profitability & Margins
Margins and Operating Efficiency
AI Review
Profitability margins reflect a decade-long structural decline that has finally reached an engineered cyclical floor. Net interest margin settled near 1.28% to 1.29% in mid-2026, down more than 80 basis points over the past decade. This multi-year compression resulted from state-directed loan prime rate reductions and mortgage concessions designed to stimulate broader domestic economic activity. Crucially, margins stabilized because administrative reductions in commercial deposit rates lowered funding costs faster than loan yields declined. While return on equity remains structurally subdued near 8.6% to 9.2%, stabilized lending spreads ensure the franchise generates sufficient recurring net profit to comfortably sustain its statutory 30% dividend payout ratio.
